They don't call themselves Multi-level Marketing Companies (MLM), but they prefer that you consider them an affiliate-based ecommerce company. They appear to be an MLM.
MLM can often be associated with hosting parties and selling products to relatives.
An MLM requires you to buy a product or service to meet legal requirements. Karatbar does not require you to do so. Karatbar might recommend that you purchase a product to ensure your financial security.
Karatbars International headquarters and the logistics center are located at Stuttgart, Germany. They coordinate the creation of new European nations.

Is Karatbars A Pyramid Scheme?
Namibia
Karatbars International was flagged by the Bank of Namibia as a pyramid scheme.
Namibia's primary financial regulator is the Bank of Namibia.
After an investigation, the BON released a media release stating that Karatbars International had been identified as a pyramid scheme.
The Banking Institutions Act prohibits pyramid schemes in Namibia.
Because they are part of a pyramid scheme, the NOB has banned Karatbars International as well as its promoters (from doing business in Namibia).
South Africa
South Africa's FSCA made a dramatic turn and stopped trying to regulate Karatbars International.
Karatbars told FSCA, in response to its initial warning regarding securities fraud in November 2019, that it sells two products: gold bullion and a crypto-asset.
The FSCA warned Karatbars, its affiliates, had heavily promoted KBC shitcoin’s passive investment potential.
FSCA appears to have taken Karatbars claims at face value instead of investigating them. This would have shown that KBC promotion dates back at most July 2018.
The FSCA published an update on December 13, 2019 stating that Karatbars products are not considered financial services or products.
They have not been registered with FSCA, and therefore are out of their jurisdiction.
In 2019, a German watchdog ordered Karatbars to shut down its blockchain-based business. It was accused of misleading customers into joining a pyramid scheme.
Canada
Karatbars International was warned by the Ontario Securities Commission about securities fraud in July 2020.
The OSC warns Karatbars International and Karatbit (including Karatbit Exchange) are not licensed or recognised in Ontario, Canada to engage in the business selling or buying securities.
Karatbars International was warned by Canada's AMF about securities fraud in March 2014. This resulted in an outright ban in 2016.
OSC's most recent warning appears to be a repetition from Karatbars International’s illegal solicitation of investment from Canadian citizens.
What happened?
Karatbars announced, in response to regulatory warnings from South Africa, Namibia, Germany, and South Africa in the past few decades, that it would change its name to Freebay in September 2020.
This reboot comes in the wake the huge investor losses that followed the 2019 KaratGold Coin Ponzi Coin Launch.

Can You Make Money in the Karatbars Compensation Plan?
There are many ways to make money in Karatbars’ Compensation plan.
Package Commission
Distributors earn package commissions on every package sold to distributors.
- Silver package commission 60 EUR (approximately 170).
- Bronze package commission: 150 EUR (approximately 170).
- Gold package commission: 300 EUR (approximately, 340).
Unilevel Commission
Distributors get Unilevel Commissions proportionally to the money they spend with distributors below them based on their rank.
A distributor's unilevel commission rate is 0.5%, with a maximum limit of 5.5%.
Binary Commission
Distributors may earn binary commissions based upon the downline's spending using a binary compensation model.
Once each leg has sold a certain number of units, they are then distributed generationally.
Worldwide Turnover Bonus
It is not clear how the pool is distributed among distributors. It does not help that the compensation plan is in place.
This seems to be a bonus pool of 5% that is 95c per gram gold that Karatbars has sold.
Gold Pool
This pool is made up of 1% Karatbars International lump sum purchase of gold. This includes individual and package gold purchases exceeding 50 EUR (55 span>
A distributor must have at minimum three unilevel legs and at least 9000 points to be eligible for the gold pool.
The points are divided by 1,000 to determine the number of Gold Pool shares distributors have access to.
The Karatbars compensation program is very complicated. It spans 25 pages. It is difficult to imagine what information a sales representative or distributor would need to close a deal.
