Dr. Gustavo was born in 1928 in Luserna, Italy. He received his education at the Universities of Turin and Genoa. He was then appointed Professor of Surgery at McGill University (1993-1993) as well as Sherbrooke (1973-1985 span>
Dr. Bounous received the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Medal in 1965. He was also appointed Career Investigator to Medical Research Council in 1968. He was awarded this honor again in 1993 when he retired at McGill University.
Dr. Bounous, McGill University Faculty of Medicine colleagues, and others started a new research program in 1978 to find a source of dietary proteins that would improve the immune systems.
